Childhood Relived

As a kid growing up in the early 2000’s I was pretty familiar with a little show called Pokémon. That was probably THE show everyone in my class watched. But one morning, before school, I stumbled across a little show called Digimon. Of course I had to watch it, it had part of Pokémon’s name in it. Plus, it was on Toon Disney.

That was when the addiction started.

Now the Digimon that I watched originally was the very first season, Digimon Adventure. I have to say that until this day the first season of Digimon is still my favorite. The second season, Digimon Adventure 02, is close behind it though. I did find that each season brought in a new cast of characters, most just carbon copies of the original, and the plots always had their own originality to it.

For example: Digimon Adventure took place with the kids being transported to the Digital World while at summer camp, and most of the show took place in the Digital World. It was not easy for them to get back and forth. 02, while having most of the previous cast plus some new ones, took a different path with the plot. It took place with the kids just living in the Real World and traveling through computers to and from the Digital World. The third season, Digimon Tamers, took place with Digimon being a card game in the Real World and Digimon suddenly becoming real from the cards. The fourth season had everything funky. Digimon Frontier (I found this season’s name funny because I was watching it around the same time that Pokémon Frontier aired) had the kids taken from the real world on trains to the Digital World. HOWEVER, this time the kids could turn into the Digimon…WHAT?! I thought the first four seasons were the best though.

But I always held the first two, the two adventures, as my favorite seasons. I always liked those the best. It also didn’t help that my best friend and I watched Digimon: The Movie almost every day. You probably think I’m exaggerating, but I’m not. I can quote nearly every line from that movie, and I hold it very dear to me. Upon our discovering of Revenge of Diaboromon, we began to alternate.

WAIT!! I’m getting carried away, there’s a reason for this article I swear! I got stuck in my childhood! Sorry!

Here’s what I really wanted to say:

So there I was browsing Cruchyroll, as I do every day, and another story caught my eye. “Digimon Adventure Sequel Anime Announced”. Okay stop, pause, read it again. Yep Digimon Adventure Sequel. There is was. Checked the date…wasn’t April 1st. It wasn’t a joke! I was beside myself. Remember when I wrote about how I yelled about the new Fate/Stay Night anime? Yeah well double that by 10. This was my childhood. Heck if I still talked to my best friend from elementary school I probably would have called her crying.

Sure enough they are releasing a Sequel in 2015. Yay!

I know what you’re thinking now though. “Um, Ka-chan, remember when you talked about beating a franchise to death? I think this qualifies.” Well, yes, it totally does. But I swear I’m not trying to be a hypocrite here. This series premiered 15 years ago. 15 years! I see this as a difference because it has not even been 10 years since Fate/Stay Night was released. That’s a little close for a redo of the original. This is like an extension of the series.

Not to mention if you saw the last like, oh I don’t’ know, 2 minutes of the final 02 episode. Or as I prefer to call it “the biggest WTF moment in my life”. I need to know what happened all of a sudden to make a few important moments happen. Not to mention I wanted to see how the Digimon began to adapt in the human world.

I’m definitely going to check out this new Digimon series, even if I will be in college when it comes out. Because it’s my childhood, and I need to know how in the world Matt and Sora happened!!!

Here’s a link to the article if you’re curious. Check it out:
