kiteLiberator

TLDR VERSION:

CHICKS LIVE DOUBLE LIVES: SCHOOLGIRL BY DAY AND BRUTAL ASSASSINS BY NIGHT. THEY HUNT DOWN RAPISTS AND CHILD MOLESTERS. 5.43/10 AVERAGE

  • ANIMATIONS/VISUALS: 6/10 ABOVE AVERAGE
Kite was produced around 1998 so its animation style is super 90s. I personally am not fond of it because the animations feel so slow. The characters also look really weird.
Kite Liberator is more modern (2007) so it’s adapted a more moé feel and its animation greatly improved. Despite that, I still feel some shots look really weird.
    -KITE IS SO 90s
    +LIBERATOR’S FIGHT ANIMATIONS
  • PLOT: 2/10 DISMAL
I didn’t like the plot of Kite because of the way the protagonist Sawa handled things. Like, the film could’ve been over in like 10 minutes if she did this or that. But it’s 45 minutes (60 minutes if you watch the hentai bits) of bullfuckery.
Kite Liberator’s plot was shaping up nicely until fucking ***spoileralertfuckingspoilerspacespoilermonstersspoilerend*** showed up. It ended on a disappointing note. I felt like the entire movie tried to by many things at once instead of focusing on the juicy bit, like assassins murdering child molesters.
-SERIOUSLY BITCH THIS MOVIE DIDN’T HAVE TO HAPPEN.
    -ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS
    -WOW CLIFFHANGER
  • CONCEPT: 8/10 GREAT
The concept of living double lives as schoolgirls and assassins is a pretty cool idea. So is exploding bullets. Brilliant ideas but sloppy execution. I’m sure there is also some edgy political commentary about pedophilia.
    +GIRLS WITH GUNS
    +PEDOPHILIA COMMENTARY?
  • FIGHTS: 8/10 GREAT
Kite had a really fucking stupid fight scene. That’s all I’m going to say. Key word: comedian bodyguards. If you watch it, you’ll get it. That fight did not need to last 5 minutes.
Kite Liberator introduces some flashy action-centric fight scenes. That’s the force redeeming this score right now.
-THE 90s WERE A TERRIBLE TIME TO HAVE A FIGHT.
+LIBERATOR BRINGS SOME NICE ACTION TO THE TABLE.
  • LOL-FACTOR: 4/10 POOR
Kite didn’t have any lols. Period.
Kite Liberator gives our girls some nice comedic relief lol-factor, which redeems this score.
    -RAPE IS NOT FUNNY
    +LIBERATOR’S COMIC RELIEF
  • FEELS: 5/10 AVERAGE
I think the problem is that there wasn’t a strong emotional connection to the characters. 60 minutes is a pretty short time and most of that time wasn’t spent making us feel sympathetic. Doesn’t help that our protagonists are cold blooded killers, but yeah. There is value in the fact that both characters have some sort of sob story.
    +TRAGIC STORY I GUESS
    -NO DEEP CONNECTIONS
  • KAWAII FACTOR: 5/10 AVERAGE
Kite’s girl seems like a callous bitch. Absolutely zero waifu factor.
Kite Liberator’s girl is much more kawaii and that’s the redeeming factor in this value. But she’s a minor. So that’s some morally distasteful shit right there. The other characters introduced are also pretty likable.
In all, kawaii factor is not a central focus. It’s nice that Liberator included it, though.

    -KITE IS NOT CUTE
    +LIBERATOR IS KIND OF CUTE.
  • VERDICT: 5.43/10 AVERAGE
Some people liked Kite and some people hated Kite Liberator. I’d say I preferred Kite Liberator overall but I can see the concerns because it basically held no connection as a sequel so you can honestly watch them in any order. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.
