Morning Musume 14 – “TIKI BUN”
It feels like I’ve been waiting forever for Morning Musume’s next single! Of course, there has been so much hype surrounding “TIKI BUN” as it will be leader, Michishige Sayumi’s, last single before her graduation this winter. Early rumours suggested “TIKI BUN” was going to be a cool track and it is indeed very cool. The high-quality MV puts the spotlight on Morning Musume ’14’s unique choreography – it’s incredibly bold and dramatic (the mixture of monochrome and spotlights reminds me a little of the MV for Wagamama…). Most of all, I really like the lyrics and concept behind this song.
We can look forward to more new MVs from Morning Musume over the coming weeks, as this single also includes Michishige’s solo track and a special farewell song from the remaining members. (You can watch “TIKI BUN” at the end of the Hello Project Station episode below).
Anna Tsuchiya – “LUCIFER”
Halloween’s come early for Anna Tsuchiya in her new song “LUCIFER”, from her upcoming mini-album of the same name. Like a number of her other musical releases, the lyrics to “LUCIFER” are entirely in English. The song is loosely based on the story of Lucifer, the fallen angel from the Bible that becomes the Devil. The former fashion model appears as a lovely angel as well as having a genuinely scary makeover to become a monster. Without a doubt this is a very unique release and props go to Tsuchiya for pulling off one of the scariest music videos I’ve seen.
SAWA – “Kimi to Bartender”
After sharing “RingaRinga” last week – here’s another new song I want to share from electronic-music star SAWA. “Kimi to Bartender” is from her upcoming mini-album RingaRinga (on sale in Japan this week). The cute electro singer’s new MV is, of course, set in a cocktail bar and made complete with some cute dance moves to cheer you up.
Yumemiru Adolescence – “Shoumei Teenager”
Released earlier this month is a very cool song from J-idol group Yumemiru Adolescence. “Shoumei Teenager” is a dramatic track with a rock flavour. The MV has a mysterious and abstract concept with the group solving puzzles and staring at apples! I really like the dance shots in the PV – the costumes are gorgeous and compliment the powerful choreography.
Yoshizawa Kayoko – “Kekeke”
And in Music Round-Up tradition, I’m going to end on something quite strange and the unusual concept behind this next release has been causing quite the stir online this week. Yoshizawa Kayoko unveiled the hilarious MV for her new track “Kekeke” – it’s a song about removing unwanted body hair! Watch Yoshizawa battle against hairs with a giant razor and perform funny choreography to this funky track.
