It’s not a secret that I’m a huge fan girl Doctor Who, Teen Wolf, Torchwood, StarTrek, Parks and Recreation, The Big Bang Theory, Skins UK, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, Spider-Man, Harry Potter and so much more. I gave myself a headache just thinking about how much time I’ve “wasted” watching these shows and we haven’t even really gotten into books/movies. But here’s the thing I take comfort in knowing that I’m not the only fan girl on this planet. There’s people out there who have more fandoms than I do and there’s people who depend on these shows. I know that sounds weird, but shows like Doctor Who take us out of ourselves for a moment. They give us the idea that anything is possible and that you too could be a superhero. You the nerd can get the hot blonde chick (BBT). You could change the life of someone in need (DW). You can keep working until you get your dream job and perfect wife/husband (PaR). You could be a wizard and defeat the dark lord (HP); ok maybe not. But the point is, these stories, they give us hope. They help us believe in ourselves that anything is possible. If Harry can defeat Lord Voldemort than I can get an A on this test. If Leslie Knope can land a guy like Ben Wyatt than I can talk to the cute accountant at work. If the Doctor can change millions of lives than I can change just one. It doesn’t matter how many fandoms your apart of what matters is that these fandoms affect you. We are all the fan girl of fan girls at heart, because we all have hope.
